Sue Fredericks From the Publisher: November/December 2006
Written by Sue Fredericks
It’s a Wrap
This issue wraps up another year of sharing design ideas, business tips and success stories from across the country. While it is often tempting to sit around and contemplate our navels and pat ourselves on the back for our accomplishments, we know that doesn’t help us on our quest to provide the best floral publication possible.

What does help us is input from our readers who are out there in the trenches and at the benches every day, so if you would like to add anything to our lineup, please send us an e-mail, or pick up the phone and give us a call. In the meantime, we have been busy gathering thoughts and suggestions from a handful of advisors to the magazine and we have a clear consensus on some of the changes we need to make.

In the coming issues for 2007, you can look forward to more articles pertaining to the business of running a flower shop, how to develop and maintain successful supplier relations and industry resources, and working together to form a united proactive voice for the industry. At the same time, we will continue to provide a platform to showcase original Canadian design work and share the stories of successful Canadian florists.

And because this industry is based on design, we will be working towards a new look for the magazine and a new and improved website. One project is bigger than the other and is difficult to set a time frame for, so I am not going to commit to which will come first – the chicken or the egg!

I will commit to finding a new editor to replace Anja, who has moved on to a new job. I really appreciate her efforts with the magazine and wish her well in her new position. If you know of any talented young (or not so young) editors looking for the thrill of deadlines, hard work and modest pay, please forward their names. (Kind of sounds like a job in a flower shop, doesn’t it?)

A little elf, who has been following me around for 13 years, has also reminded me to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. (Thanks, Barbie.) When the last order is filled on Dec. 24, take a moment to relax and spend time with your loved ones. And may we all enjoy peace and prosperity in 2007.
